Sustainability in MICE - How B Leisure DMC Champions Eco-Friendly Tourism

Explore the intersection of sustainability, MICE and how B Leisure DMC champions eco-friendly tourism

Modern bleisure tourists value the concepts of sustainable tourism and embrace eco-tourism principles, including preserving the local environment as well as seeking the authentic experience. While both sustainable and eco-tourism advocate for preserving local environment, culture, and tradition alongside tailoring distinctive tourism opportunities and experiences, eco-tourism emphasizes educating tourists about preserving nature and the environment, empowering the local community, as well as developing rural tourism. These aspects differentiate eco-tourism from sustainable tourism since certain aspects may not be applicable to sustainable tourism in all the cases. By 2030, the UN plans to implement policies supporting sustainable and eco-tourism. Acknowledging the necessity of sustainability in the MICE industry, B Leisure DMC has devised tailored incentive programs highlighting Serbia’s eco-friendly tourism appeal.

Fungry Workshops

One way B Leisure DMC champions eco-friendly tourism is by preserving the authentic gastronomic traditions of South and East Serbia, which is achieved through designing an incentive program encouraging the use of distinctive local products in food preparation. Designed for groups of 10-50 individuals, Fungry (i.e., food and hungry) workshops preserve the region’s traditional meals and local products. These workshops quality is upgraded by collaborating with professional chefs who instruct participants on preparing sustainable traditional meals. Since the workshops are season-based, participants can opt for preparing appetizers such as traditional South Serbian seasonal salads, wood mushroom and vegetable soup, traditional bread, as well as handmade filo pastry pies. Main courses include sarma with cabbage, kale, or wine leaves, stuffed dry peppers, and southern barbecue, alongside traditional desserts like vanilice and pivčići. Check out our Fungry Workshops brochure for more information on booking your Fungry Workshop adventure.

Magi Magarija

Magi Magarija Donkey and Rare Breeds Farm is located near Dimitrovgrad in the Serbia-Bulgaria cross-border region. The dairy farm, founded in 2005 and renowned for its autochthonous donkey breeds as well as other endangered species husbandry, offers an authentic experience of meeting these native species in the scenic mountain area. The entire farm embraces eco-friendly practices in donkey husbandry, acknowledging the necessity of benefiting the environment. Acclaimed for its donkey milk, the farm offers distinctive eco-friendly incentive programs such as donkey breeding as well as donkey milking for the visitors to enjoy. Visitors not only learn how to milk donkeys but also gain insights into sustainable practices, which in turn preserve the local nature.

Serbia in Europe – Hugging Between the North and the South

B Leisure DMC also boasts the Serbia in Europe program, an eco-friendly sustainable tour designed as the part of the Hugging between the North and the South incentive trip. The Serbia in Europe tour incorporates the Danube cruise to the awe-inspiring Krčedin river island, culminating in a visit to a farm where various domestic animals live in peaceful harmony within the preserved natural environment. The tour also provides a walk through magnificent landscapes, the photo safari, and the opportunity to learn about the endangered sustainable breed. Visitors are offered a truly unique opportunity to experience eco-friendly practices by observing herds of peaceful horses, autochthonous Mangulica pigs, or other domestic animals, including the endangered Podolian cattle, a rare and beautiful autochthonous Serbian cattle breed famous for its long horns. Visit our Serbia at Hand brochure for more information about this program.

Whisper of Wine

B Leisure DMC also promotes eco-friendly tourism, empowering the local community while preserving local products and services through the AR application Whisper of Wine. The interactive Whisper of Wine augmented reality application supports eco-friendly tourism by mapping and promoting local wineries in the Serbia-Bulgaria cross-border region. Ultimately, this practice helps develop the sustainable tourism potential of the local community by providing insight into accommodation facilities in the area, consequently encouraging bleisure tourists to stay on the route. As a consequence, this approach brings diverse benefits to the local community, especially with the impact of luxury tourists seeking distinctively local experiences. Staying on the route consequentially leads to sustainable tourism by increasing consumption of autochthonous wine varieties and local cuisine, activating all the senses. Visit the Whisper of Wine website to learn more about this application and how to download it.
